Chris Cantell Discusses Computer Science: Investigatie in desfasurare

Ati auzit despre Comcast Corp? Daca nu, sa stiti ca nu ati pierdut prea multe. Fiind cel mai mare furnizor de cablu TV si al doilea de Internet in SUA, Comcast crede ca este atotputernic si poate intervene in felul cum utilizeaza clientul Internetul. Aceasta problema a iesit la iveala in Octombrie anul trecut cand studiul la nivel national al lui Associated Press a dezvaluit ca Comcast nu pot folosi eDonke, Gnutella si BitTorrent. La mom entul respective motivul dat de companie a fost ca nu are nimic de-a face cu disrimanarea de date ci mai degraba cu viteza Internetului si ca ei nu considera a fi incalcat vreo lege, astfel ca investigatia celui mai puternic regulator al comunicatilor din SUA (U.S. Federal Communications Commission) nu are autoritate legala. Pe de-o parte, marti, Kevin Martin, Presedintele FCC, a anuntat o investigatie a lui Comcast in legatura cu metodele subversive folosite pentru a restrictiona utilizatorii de Internet. Comitetul Comertului va decide daca investigatie e cu sau fara temei, in contextul in care Martin o justifica prin luarea in considerare a plangerilor din partea consumatorilor. Pe cealalta parte, Comcast s-a aparat spunand ca ei au folosit doar un sistem ce se ocupa cu decongestionarea de pe retea, in beneficial consumatorilor. Mai mult, compania va conlucra cu BitTorrent si altii pentru a veni cu o legislatie a consumatorilor si furnizorilor de Internet. In sprijinul sau Kyle McSlarrow, directorul executive al Asociatiei Nationale a Cablului si Telecomunicatiilor a spus ca ar trebui sa li se permita sa ia propriile decizii in ceea ce priveste decongestionarea si distribuirea de fisiere piratate, astfel asigurand o experienta placuta consumatorilor.
