Can another device compete with the iPhone?
by Ana Maria Ciobanu

It was only a matter of time till the major phone vendors began to squeeze their brains out to create smart devices meant to live the iPhone with some dust in its eyes. I don't really know if this is really possible on a large scale, but at least in USA people would probably buy devices that have the iPhone's features and another phone carrier(other than AT&T). The smart phones announced for release till now are not even close to the wonderful look the iPhone is proud of. High Tech Computer has the Touch. A bad name in my opinion for a device that can't compete to the iPhone's touchscreen. You can see a picture of this device at: http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9023418 Samsung Group will release its Ultra Smart F700 which could compete a little with the iPhone. It has a wide touchscreen but it also has a pull-down QWERTY keyboard that makes it loose, in my opinion. A positive thing about it is that it has 3G support with speeds as high as 7.2Mbit/sec. It doesn't have the elegant look of an iPhone and I sincerely wonder if anyone else but Apple could come up with this sort of catchy look. To conclude, in terms of design and wonderful touchscreens iPhone is a winner and will probably be for a long time, in terms of phone carriers other devices will increase their value by allowing users to put exactly what they want on their devices and sign a contract for as long as they want. Maybe they shouldn't try to copy Apple's iPhone- no imitation can be as good as the original product, this is a fact- but to come up with something else, something original that the iPhone doesn't have and didn't think of having.

Application management improves
by Claudia Sonea

All the markets (stock, music, movies, computers, etc) are in a continuous expansion and as a result there will be pressures, regulatory demands, and security issues. Businesses have to deal now with all the problems I mentioned earlier in order to improve their application portfolios and the way they govern and also will lead to more flexible and competitive organizations. Relativity Technologies Inc., the leading provider of Enterprise Application Modernization and Application Portfolio Management solutions, created a software platform called Modernization Workbench to increase the efficiency and flexibility of the applications and automate the core of business operations. The software platform offers reduced complexity barriers (adaptable diagrams, context-sensitive design information, advanced impact analysis, etc), application IT governance At-A-Glance (allows organizations to instantly identify, prioritize, and optimize development activities), accelerated knowledge transfer (more accurate functional specifications that can be quickly implemented by development professionals) and productivity improvements (simplifies the use of powerful functions). The product is a wonder of the Computer Science. However, there comes the negative side. The fact that problems are systematically solved led to a loss of basic knowledge about the existing application base and the maintenance budget had to grow. People should regain their ownership on the matter, otherwise everything will move in circle and when the software will fail, the entire industry will be on a blackout. That is why people are better than machines, we have the ability to adapt and be spontaneous. Enjoy your surf!
